A Quick Lie Never Hurt Anyone...

December 27, 2021

"Kindness can become its own motive. We are made kind by being kind." - Eric Hoffer

Over the last past year, I've received a lot of different stories, quotes, and amazing book recommendations and I really appreciate that! I don't always respond to texts or emails because I get a few thousand a week, but I do my best to read them all.

A quick story that was sent to me earlier this year was the one below that made me laugh and also reminded me that there are people out there who sometimes twist the truth to make others feel good.

During a dinner, Mark Twain was talking to a lady beside him and out of courtesy, he said, "You are so beautiful!" The lady was arrogant, and told him, "I’m sorry but I can’t say the same for you." Mark Twain then told her, "That’s alright, you could be like me, just tell a lie." The lady looked down in embarrassment.

Remember it's up to you to be kind to others, but sometimes your kindness will fall on people who aren't quite ready to understand that you are being courteous in your approach. Do your best to lead with humility and when someone isn't ready to reciprocate your kindness, just move on, or you could also do what Mark Twain did...
